I was born in Hamilton, Ohio, and man I'm glad we didn't stay long! My mother and father moved when I was 1 to New Orleans, Louisiana. My mother and father divorced when I was 5. Sad. My dad pretty much split and I have been with my wonderful mother ever since. She and I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida when I was about 9. When I reached the age of 18 I moved to Fort Lauderdale to bartend for 10 years while attending school. I started firefighting at the age of 25 with Deerfield Beach Fire and Rescue and I love it. Thats pretty much the demographics.
How I came out: One day I was sitting at home with my gf and we were kissing. Out of the corner of my eye I saw my mother walk downstairs. OMG....she must have saw us! Sure enough, she did. She cried and blammed it on my good friend who was gay. That seems to be the thing to do. I was only 16 at the time, and I didn't understand what "gay" meant. I wasn't comfortable with being open and I wasn't sure how to tell everyone. I slowly started telling my friends and believe it or not....most of them were gay or bi too! If they weren't, they were cool with it anyways. My mother struggled with it for a while, but was always there for me. She never turned her back on me and I love her for that. Ya see....my mother is a Christian and goes to bible study at least once a week. Its hard for her to think that I might burn in hell because of my sexuality, but she still loves me. I think she is just scared for me. I don't believe for one second that I will be burning in some crazy place called "Hell" just for loving someone. What a crock of shit, but we're not going to get in to religion or politics here. Anywho, My entire family knows and accepts my decisions, and we are one big happy mess. I love them!
Life outlook: I face everyday with a smile. We aren't on this planet for long, so don't waste your time trying to make other people happy. I don't mean that in a negative way....just live honestly. You have to work on being a better person everyday of your life. I am always learning and growing. People can be mean, but it is usually because they don't understand something, or they are scared. One thing that helped me build my confidence and that I still work on today, is walking with my head up high. Don't go around thinking what everyone else is thinking about you. Instead know that all they are thinking is what you are thinking about them! Get it?....Whew! I always make it a point to say hello and smile to everyone. You never know who's day you might brighten up. I like making people happy....it's my passion I guess. I have found that people respect you for being you. It's admirable. This is what I like to think....if people see me being comfortable with myself, maybe that will inspire them. Remember that everyone was created equal and you are everyone. It's what you do with your life that can make a difference in this world. | | | | Heroes | | Anyone who respects themselves | | |
